Effect of temporomandibular joint sensory receptors on functional jaw movements following intra-articular anesthesia during gum-chewing

چکیده
Basic patterns of masticatory rhythm are generated by the intrinsic neuronal network, so called masticatory central pattern generator, in the brain stem, and are fine tuned in response to both peripheral feedback and central afferent inputs. It is well known that peripheral receptors responsible for the regulation of masticatory rhythm are distributed in the periodontium, lips, oral mucosa, jaw muscles and temporomandibular joint (TMJ), and that they play an important role in adjusting the movements of the jaw. There are many reports about mechanoreceptors in periodontium, lips, oral mucosa and jaw muscles. However, the effect of mechanoreceptors in the TMJ on functional jaw movements has not been clarified clinically, even though there is abundant neurohistological evidence of TMJ innervation in animals and man. We attempted to establish the effect of TMJ sensory receptors on functional jaw movements in humans.

Randomized trial on the effectiveness of dexamethasone in TMJ arthrocentesis.
The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of dexamethasone administration following arthrocentesis of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) with a placebo (saline). Twenty-eight participants with TMJ arthralgia were randomly assigned to two groups of a parallel double-blind RCT. In both groups, an arthrocentesis procedure was carried out. In one group, the procedure was followed by the...
متن کاملArthroscopic treatment for intra-articular adhesions of the temporomandibular joint.
PURPOSE To introduce arthroscopic surgery of intra-articulator adhesion of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) upper compartment and evaluate its effect. PATIENTS AND METHODS One hundred forty-two patients (159 joints) with intra-articular adhesions confirmed by arthroscope were treated with lysis of the adhesions, intra-articular cleanup surgery, or capsule radiofrequency catheter ablation. On...
متن کاملEffect of chewing on postural stability during quiet standing in healthy young males.
BACKGROUND AND AIMS There is an important role of the neck sensory motor system in control of body posture and balance, and it is reasonable to believe that the jaw sensory motor system can directly and indirectly influence the modulation of the postural control system. The purpose of this study was to evaluate possible effects of dynamic jaw position while chewing on the postural control syste...

OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to evaluate the regression of temporomandibular pain as a result of intra-articular injections of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to patients with temporomandibular joint dysfunction previously subjected to prosthetic treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS The baseline study material consisted of 10 patients, both males and females, aged 28 to 53 years, previous...
